Barn Cafe, Hasketon, packed to its fairy-lit rafters for the very first Tide supper club last night. It’s the brainchild of Mike @apassionforseafood Warner, with chef Hannah @tokdining
The pleasures of a working Wednesday lunch @noblerotbar talking with Dan Keeling and Mark Andrew about ten years of @noblerotmag, heroes, being surprised by wine, tenacity, £22 lunches, and the louche side of Mayfair… eating *that* Comte tart, brill in silken vin jaune veloute, and drinking two beautiful beautiful beautiful wines.
An appropriately spring-like breakfast @whitehartinnmersea, even if outside hadn’t got the change-of-season memo.
Face of a happy @chefjamescarn (a bit tired too, probably) a few weeks into restaurant ownership.
Packed opening night @carousel_ldn for @harrietmansell @robinwyldedining residency… and how invigorating the deep, fresh breath of the Dorset sea and shoreline that Harriet brought to the table from Lyme Regis.
Birthday… snacks at Barrafina… dinner at Noble Rot (glorious, from the bright silvery oyster, via that sensational chateau de bonnezeaux Chenin, to the warmth of those madeleines).. a dose of culture… but above all, time with three of the funniest, kindest, most wonderful beings on earth ❤️
I have loved getting to know Ziaur’s book. Going For An Indian is candid, it feels unscripted, you hear Ziaur’s - Ziggy’s - voice in every line. His account of growing up in the Bangladeshi community of Small Heath, Birmingham, in the racism-riddled 1980s is raw… he describes evading the NF and broken bottles, working tough all-night shifts as a teenager in local Indian restaurants, being given his first Reeboks, happiness, discovering ambition, and building the family business finally to go it alone with Montaz in Newmarket. It’s humbling to read, part social history, part cookbook and all the richer for it - and it’s gripping too. The recipes? Elegant, contemporary, beautifully shot, and very much not ‘going for an Indian’ territory! 👏👏👏
Ely glowed in midwinter sunshine on Saturday. Absolutely stunning…☀️☀️☀️
Here’s hoping the great man himself is sending positive vibes to @chefianmusgrave, Adam Beaumont and all @bocusedoruk, competing in today’s grand final @sirha_lyon 🤞🤞🤞
Friday night, Husk style - fun, relaxed, and very very delicious.
When @fallowrestaurant… half a halibut head and an adventure on the plate.
Nicole and Nina, the dynamo directors (and hospitality newcomers) behind the Cygnet restaurant and Majlis lounge at the Swan Inn, Islip. Some interviews send you away ringing with laughter (and 3 hours of nonstop chat to distil… 🤪). This was one of them.
John Rowland, head grower; Simon Rogan, chef-owner; Luke Turner, cdp; George Parsons cdp; Eldri Diaz, KP; David Lloyd, maintenance; Andrea Buccur, housekeeping …
My prospector pan! It’s arrived just in time for the season’s cooking frenzy… thank you so much @nethertonfoundry! It really is a thing of beauty.
Tea, apple cake and a Friday deadline. So glad to have @no.5angelhill in town 😊
Proper Saturday lunch @mjpattheshepherds, from truffly little gougere to tatin ‘n cheese… and everything in between. Oof, so good 😊
Yellow boots, yellow balloons… must be a birthday.
Beautiful small plates lunch in the bar @swaninnislip today, a tease for the 40-cover main event - Cygnet - opening very soon.
Delicious food, attractive plating, and attentive service yesterday lunchtime at Edmunds, the excellent restaurant at West Suffolk College.
I spent some time with this man, Simon Rogan, recently.
